Adenium /Desert Rose

Adenium Obesum
This adeniums is a birthday's gift from my hubby.
They are labeled as Red Black Ruby Adenium Obesum . It was planted from cutting, it doesn't have big trunk.

Adenium is common called by Desert Rose. Adeniums are succulent plant from the African continent and the Arabian Peninsula. They are grown for their thickened stems and root structure and their beautiful flowers. Adenium can be planted in the ground or container.

Basic things to care Adenium.

Light : Bright light to full sun with 50% shade is best for Adenium. Growing adenium under low light may cause adenium reduce their flower's productivity.
Temperature :
Adeniums like warm temperature but be careful with the heat , temperature more than 100F may cause leaves turn yellow and fall. I used to place them at shady place when the temperature reach more than 100F.
Adenium should be protected at temperature below 40F. Place them indoor when winter is coming.
During winter, adenium are dormant unless kept in warm place. Adenium are subject to root rot when the soil is too wet especially in winter.

Water : During summer, adenium will respond with rapid growth, in bright light, with frequent, regular watering. This can be as often as 1-2 times per week.
Reduce watering in winter or threat them as cactus.

Soil : A good cactus mix should always be used in potting adeniums. Good drainage is imperative and all pots should have a drainage hole.

Fertilizer : Half strength of fertilizer which have big number in the middle. Feed adenium only from spring to late summer. Do not feed them in winter.

Jade Plants / Crassula

Jade Plants / Crassula

I bought my Jade from Wallmart in 4" pot, it was only $4 .
This plant is easy to grow , you don't need to have green thumb to grow it.

Light : prefers bright light to full sun. When the weather is warm or hot , I put them outside but I don't leave them under the sun for more than 6 hours , it can burn their leaves.

Soil : Good soil potting, well draining soil.

Water : In warm /hot weather, water them when the soil surface is dry 1-2 inch deep. In winter reduce watering 1-2 weeks or even less.

Fertilizer : Use high nitrogen fertilizer. I use Miracle Grow liquid fertilizer. Use fertilizer only when they're growing; usually in spring or summer . Over fertilizing can burn the root and leaves.

Propagation : Stem cutting . I propagated a small stem around the end of December 2008. It was very simple; just cut the stem and stick in the soil and water it.
I didn't give it any special treatment and now they are growing.
